In this 2-day workshop, we will explore the beauty of painting from life. The magic that can happen when we really learn to be observers of nature and render what truths we see. To make the most of color, temperature, composition and stroke work, as well as the basic foundation of 2 dimensional art, mainly value.
Daily demo, personal instruction, and a comprehensive tutorial on framing using the French envelope method. Weather permitting, class will be in plein air (working out of doors) at the picturesque Twisted Fish gardens and around beautiful downtown Elk Rapids. Pastel is perfectly suited for plein air for several reasons: it’s immediate, no drying time, color mixing or messy liquids.
Class meets in the Cottage Gallery on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 6 and 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and includes lunch both days. Please contact the gallery at (231)264-0123 to register and obtain supply list. There is an optional materials fee of $35 for paper and some of Louise’s favorite most used pastels.
