Having seen Doug’s sculptures throughout the region, we were immediately drawn in. Doug’s use of found object and steel transform ordinary scraps or “throw-aways” into life-like, animated and endearing works of art. His work pays homage to our shared love of the beauty that is lower northern Michigan.
Doug taught at North Central Michigan College and was instrumental in the development of their art department. As a teacher, Doug always taught his students how important it was for them to be thoroughly engaged in the wonders of art- as creators, observers & patrons. As an artist, he continues to bring that sense of engagement and wonder to his work.
He resides in Boyne City, Michigan, where the farmland that surrounds his studio continues to feed his creativity.
*Due to the size and scale of Doug’s work, purchase and shipping requires direct contact with the Gallery. #231 264 0123. If local, the Gallery is happy to deliver and help with installing.
