I grew up in a home where my parents’ passion for nature, storytelling and art played a large role in the artist/person I have become. I am a quiet lover of stories, fairy tales, a Utopian realm and the product of my parents. My mother was ever the talker, poet and gardener and my father, a sculptor and dreamer. I find beauty in the world that isn’t quite perfect in the asymmetry of people, places and things. You can see this in the exaggeration of disproportion in my figures and complementary colors in the backgrounds of the paintings. I speak through my hands with the molding of the clay, and I have a profound fondness for the texture of fingerprint. I thrill at the hunt for salvaged relics, and the sense of unity as I bring together these disparate elements for the viewer’s contemplation.
I prefer to connect with others through my art, granting each piece a voice to tell its own story. Many of my pieces whisper a modern take on the classic “Grimm’s Fairy tale.” There is a moral hidden somewhere in the story of each sculpture, and who knows – it could be as simple as taking the time to discover your own splendor.
