My paintings reflect the emotional connections I feel to nature. The sculptural shapes of both flowers and trees represented in this body of work possess rhythmic movement. I see their personalities, conversations and lively dances as they celebrate life. I feel their energy. I see how trees relate to each other in the landscape. Flowers also express an interaction among themselves. Variations of light pull me into the painting as I interpret what I see. I paint from direct observation and visual memory.
For many years my focus has been with painting trees. Currently, my bond with nature has expanded to include a series of flowers. I have found this to be a welcomed addition to my work due to a recent health event. These floral images symbolize the process of healing, joy and gratitude. The last two paintings in this series, “Forest Through the Flowers” and “Listen to the Forest” have merged my interest in painting trees and flowers.
