Four galleries, one great day

Elk Rapids Art Beat is Saturday, Oct. 4.

ELK RAPIDS — As the days cool and Mother Nature begins her fall artistry, it’s time for Elk Rapids to celebrate with ART BEAT! Four of Northern Michigan’s award-winning galleries are part of an open house gallery walk on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Each gallery offers fine art, along with many affordable artist-made items. Four $100 gift certificates will be drawn from those visiting all four galleries during the day. Festivities include guest artists and demonstrations. Refreshments will be served at each gallery.

The Blue Heron Gallery, located east of U.S. 31 on Ames Street, showcases hundreds of Michigan artists with the largest collection of paintings in the area. Gallery owner Dan Reszka will be demonstrating with watercolors at 10 a.m. Other demos include Dan Feldhauser, graphite, 11 a.m.; Herb Holdwick, paper mosaics, noon; and Mary Light, pastels, 1 p.m. In addition, Randy Reszka will be entertaining on the jazz guitar starting at noon.

Mullaly’s offers the finest selection of high-quality art glass in northern Michigan, and has been recognized as the finest jewelry gallery in the area. Elk Rapids watercolor artist Joani Braun will be demonstrating in the studio all day. Mullaly’s also will offer sales specials throughout the day.

South of Elk Rapids along U.S. 31 are StoneHedge Gallery & Studio and the Twisted Fish Gallery & Sculpture Garden.
