Polly Winkler-Mitchell

Polly has been creating paper art with scissors for more than 35 years. Using black silhouette paper and surgical scissors, she makes the German "scherenschnitte" which means "scissors cutting". Her designs are done free hand and often reflect ancient folk motifs, biblical stories, folk tales and fairy stories. Her colored paper creations are based on the Polish folk art called "wycinanki" and American primitive folk art, and are reminiscent of paintings by Grandma Moses and Carl Wysocki. The subjects include local and historical scenes, rural paintings and memories from her childhood.
