Elk Rapids kicks off its Fall Color Peaking Tour with Art Beat of Elk Rapids on Saturday, Oct. 1. Three of Northern Michigan’s award-winning galleries will be participating in an open house gallery walk from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Each Elk Rapids gallery is special, and all offer original fine art, along with many affordable artist-made items. Three $100 gift certificates will be drawn from those attendees who visit all three galleries. Festivities include guest artists demonstrating their artistic styles. Refreshments will be served all day. Stop by for a mimosa, wine, hors d’oeuvres, cider and donuts and other tasty treats.

Mullaly’s 128 Studio & Gallery, enjoying its 24th year representing excellence in fine art and crafts, is located on River Street in downtown Elk Rapids. Mullaly’s offers the finest selection of high quality glass in northern Michigan and has been recognized as the finest jewelry gallery in the area. Artist Patti Sevensma will be demonstrating throughout the day. In addition, the gallery will be offering discount specials.

The Blue Heron Gallery, located on Ames Street, just one-quarter mile east of the light on U.S. 31, showcases hundreds of Michigan artists. Gallery owner Dan Reszka will be demonstrating watercolors. Other artists who will be demonstrating include Shadia Zayed with acrylic/collage; Karen Vandam Michmerhulzen with palette knife oils; and Prudence Simone Barber with watercolors and oils. In addition, Randy Reszka will entertain with his jazz guitar starting at noon.

South of Elk Rapids, along U.S. 31, is the Twisted Fish Gallery, offering fine art, including a large sculpture garden. Throughout the day, the gallery will be featuring “A Rural Perspective” exhibit by Alan Maciag in its Cottage Gallery. Maciag, whose large landscape paintings have been very popular with visitors, will be at the gallery from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, Betty Bea Washburn will be demonstrating with watercolors from 10 a.m. to noon, and Gail Hayton will be demonstrating with acrylics, painting miniature paintings from noon to 3 p.m. The gallery will be holding an hourly gift certificate drawing throughout the day.
